One of the most notorious films ever made is getting the treatment it deserves. Cannibal Holocaust (1980), directed by Ruggero Deodato and starring Robert Kerman, Francesca Ciardi, Perry Pirkanen, Luca Barbareschi, and Paolo Paoloni, is coming to a new 4K restoration via Grindhouse Releasing as a full Special Edition release.
Banned and heavily censored across the world, this is the film that invented found footage — presenting the recovered footage of four documentary filmmakers who meet a brutal end at the hands of a South American cannibal tribe. The director and producer were arrested upon its original release and the film was seized. It remains one of the most visceral and uncompromising cult titles in existence. Soundtrack by Riz Ortolani.
